Lilo and Stitch: An Analysis of Religious and Moral Themes

Cobra Bubbles

Cobra Bubbles. The name itself speaks of a duality. He is both dangerous and harmless. This relates well to his personality, as he is obviously a strong and intimidating character, yet throughout the movie only has the welfare of Lilo in mind. He is somewhat in the middle of the story's moral scale, being obviously an antagonist towards the continuance of Nani and Lilo's family, yet being a protagonist for the protection of Lilo.
Cobra Bubbles is most similar in personality to the Grand Council Woman, as they both have responsibilities to the welfare of others, and are forced to take unfavourable steps to ensure that welfare. They are both intimidating, hard-nosed, and place judgements based upon how successful people are at their jobs. Yet by the end sequence of the movie, Cobra Bubbles is practically a member of the family. This can perhaps be attributed to the direct action he takes to ensure Lilo gets to keep Stitch, reminding her that she bought and paid for him. Unlike the Grand Council Woman, whose responsibility is to many, Cobra Bubbles has only Lilo to concern himself with, and therefore is welcomed into the family for personal reasons.

Disney uses Cobra Bubbles as a watchful eye, like an omnipresent deity. He is always around whenever anything happens. As the Grand Council Woman watches Jumba and Pleakley, Cobra Bubbles watches Lilo and Nani. Both watch their charges, with minimal direct action, until the end of the film, when they both step in to issue a sort of divine judgement and salvation upon the heroes. Cobra Bubbles can be seen as Lilo and Nani's personal god, stepping in at the end to save them (and Stitch) once they have proven themselves.

If any of the cast members has a web site dedicated to just them, I might include a link to it here.
